About The Position
The Pharmacy Buyer plays a critical role in supporting safe, efficient, and cost-effective medication management. This position is responsible for purchasing and maintaining inventory of medications and related supplies. This position supports the Frederick Health mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy and adheres to the Frederick Health Compliance Program, including following all regulatory requirements and the Frederick Health Standards of Behavior.
Requirements
- Strong organizational, analytical, mathematical and communication skills.
- Familiarity with pharmacy information systems and basic computer skills (including MS Word, Excel).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced highly regulated environment with attention to detail.
- Registered Maryland Board of Pharmacy Technician required.
Nice To Haves
- National pharmacy technician certification preferred.
- Experience in oncology or sterile compounding preferred
Responsibilities
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels of medications
- Place and track medication orders with wholesalers, manufacturers, and specialty distributors.
- Monitor backorders, shortages, and allocation changes; communicate updates to pharmacy leadership and clinical teams.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards related to medication storage, handling, and documentation.
- Adhering to internal purchasing processes including preparing purchase orders and checking package slips invoices for accuracy.
- Run routine and ad-hoc reports related to inventory levels, usage trends, purchasing activity, and cost analysis.
- Support budget monitoring by identifying variances, high-cost items, and opportunities for optimization.
- Maintain accurate electronic records in pharmacy information systems, inventory platforms, and EMR module (as applicable).
- Assist with medication preparation during peak workload periods or staffing shortages.
- Medication queuing & workflow support (for the pharmacy buyer responsible for infusion center).
