The pharmacy buyer/technician is responsible for the selection, procurement, and distribution of pharmaceuticals with the advice and direction of SJH pharmacists. This role involves determining items to be ordered based on pre-established pars or utilization, serving as a liaison between wholesalers, vendors, and the GPO, and placing orders daily. The position requires entering purchase order information into the SJH MM computer module, receiving and verifying items, maintaining relationships with "short supply" vendors, and updating the pharmacy drug dictionary. The technician will also manage inventory levels, generate refill lists, fill medications, run Pyxis reports, fill stock requisitions, and make rounds to nursing units for order pickup and medication delivery. Additional duties include performing pharmacy and nursing unit inspections for outdated medications, organizing returns, disinfecting PCA and epidural pumps, repacking bulk medications into unit doses, and performing aseptic manipulation of sterile products under pharmacist supervision. The role also requires understanding and functioning during "code" situations and potentially traveling to off-site locations.
