About The Position

The State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy acts efficiently, consistently, and impartially in the public interest to pursue optimal standards of practice through communication, education, legislation, licensing, and enforcement. The Board is the single State agency in Ohio responsible for administering and enforcing laws governing the practice of pharmacy and the legal distribution of drugs. The Board has a staff of 90 employees responsible for carrying out day-to-day operations. This Specialist position is assigned to the Northeast Region of Ohio. The headquarter county location assigned for this position is Cuyahoga, Lorain or Medina County. The final candidate selected for this position is required to live in or relocate to Cuyahoga, Lorain or Medina County within 180 days from the effective date of hire. Specialists play a critical role in fulfilling the mission of the Board of Pharmacy by being actively involved in the progressive changes within the pharmacy profession. Specialists have the ability to work within an agency that is making positive strides to move the pharmacy profession to a new level of patient care as well as ensuring processes are in place to protect the public.

Requirements

  • License to practice pharmacy as pharmacist as issued by State Board of Pharmacy pursuant to Sections 4729.01 to 4729.29, inclusive of Ohio Revised Code
  • 5 yrs. exp. as registered pharmacist including 3 years of tertiary-level based hospital (ER, OR, ICU, Lab, etc.) experience involving sterile drug compounding, complex automated drug delivery systems, electronic record keeping systems and use of positive identification, or has other comparable institutional facility or diversified specialty pharmacy experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts inspections of diverse and specialized establishments where drugs are dispensed, manufactured, or sold for compliance with federal and state drug laws and regulations.
  • Investigates complaints of violations of drug laws and regulations.
  • Assists in prosecution of violators.
  • Provides in-depth counseling to pharmacists and drug distributors to facilitate compliance with state and federal drug laws and violations.
  • Assists other Specialists, Agents, and Inspectors to expedite cases.
  • Provides drug information to pharmacists, distributors, and general public in order to promote awareness of drug abuse and laws.
