About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Pharmacy Assistant assists in providing quality care to Washoe Tribal Health Center (WTHC) patients and within the scope and the daily functioning of the Washoe Tribal Health Center’s Pharmacy department. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California or Nevada driver’s license or capable of obtaining one within thirty-days (30) of employment.
  • Must be able to be insurable by the Tribe’s Driving Policy.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.
  • Ability to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six months of hire.
  • Ability and skills to effectively interview patients and to write clearly.
  • Ability to be patient with the elderly and with all patients.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and other personnel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of brand and generic names of drugs, medical terminology and abbreviations, classes of drugs and narcotic category and limitations.
  • Knowledge of records management procedures.
  • Ability to operate pharmacy and EHR software.

Responsibilities

  • Operating cash register and accepting prescriptions for filling.
  • Receipt and stocking of orders for incoming medication, pharmacy supplies and other related department materials.
  • Returning to stock medications that have not been picked up by patients.
  • Medication outdates inventory on a timely and consistent schedule.
  • Inventory and stocking of vials, bottles, medications and other department related supplies.
  • Timely return of medication to stock, receiving all patient calls, ordering medication refills, directing phone calls to the appropriate pharmacy staff, liaison between pharmacists and patients.
  • Organizing files for easy reference and retrieval.
  • Effectively communicating with patients regarding their medications and any refill requirements that might be needed.
  • Assisting in measuring units, labeling packages and initiating proper storage.
  • Assisting the pharmacist and other pharmacy personnel with telephone calls, patient requests and other related communications.
  • Assisting the pharmacist and other pharmacy personnel with yearly inventory.
  • Maintaining Pharmacy and storage areas in a clean, neat condition by, including cleaning of all equipment.
  • Data entry in all required pharmacy and Electronic Health Record (EHR) data software programs.
  • Respecting and adhering to the most rigid and strict rules of employer/tribal member/public citizen practice of confidentiality.
  • Performing other duties as required.
