About The Position

The Pharmacy Assistant – Outpatient performs non-judgmental duties in a retail environment under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist. This role involves tasks such as obtaining and entering patient and insurance information, checking prescription completeness, managing inventory, processing insurance claims, directing clinical questions to the pharmacist, handling patient transactions, and informing the Pharmacist about new prescriptions requiring consultation. The assistant is also responsible for maintaining ethical and professional behavior, ensuring efficient and accurate medication distribution, staying current on Federal and State pharmacy regulations, and representing the pharmacy and hospital positively. Responsibilities

  • Perform non-judgmental duties involved in working in a retail environment under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist
  • Obtain patient information specific to creating an electronic patient profile
  • Obtain prescription insurance information and accurately enter it in the pharmacy system
  • Check that information on a prescription is complete and legible at the time of drop-off
  • Stock/order/update inventory according to established process
  • Prepare medical insurance claims
  • Direct clinical patient questions to the pharmacist for consultation
  • Properly and accurately ring out the patient
  • Inform Pharmacist when there is a new prescription being picked up which requires consultation
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Pharmacist-in-Charge or Pharmacist-on-Duty
  • Maintain an ethical, professional behavior that ensures efficient, accurate, timely distribution and control of medications dispensed through the Outpatient Pharmacy
  • Keep current on Federal and State regulations as they pertain to pharmacy in a retail setting
  • Reflect and maintain a positive attitude representing the pharmacy, as well as the entire hospital
