About The Position

Texas Oncology is seeking a Certified IV Admixture Technician for a full-time position at their Houston Willowbrook Location. This role supports the clinic admixture room, performing technical, nonjudgmental aspects of medication preparation under direct supervision. Responsibilities include record keeping, inventory control, and adherence to compliance programs. Specific state laws may regulate compounding tasks for licensed individuals only.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Entry level to three years experience in a pharmacy (for Level I).
  • Minimum three to five years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills (for Level II).
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board requirement recommended (for Level II).
  • Minimum five to seven years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills (for Level Senior).
  • Oncology background preferred or extensive I.V. preparation experience (for Level Senior).
  • Completion of an ASHP accredited program or community college based program recommended (for Level Senior).

Nice To Haves

  • I.V. certification preferred (for Level II).

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a physician.
  • Checks all orders for completeness of information. Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization.
  • Under direct supervision, admixes drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines, and preparing all drugs within OSHA guidelines and interoffice guidelines.
  • Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
  • Assists in counting controlled drugs weekly and maintain records. Properly disposes all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
  • Assists in cleaning hoods daily checking drugs monthly for outdates and other quality assurance activities as assigned.
  • Assists in keeping accurate temperature logs, accurate logs on all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
  • Maintains proper control documentation of medications including lot numbers.
  • Provide support with inventory control of medications. Prepares labels. Files and prepares billing. Basic data entry into department automation. Ordering of medication and supplies as directed.
  • Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admix area and the pharmacy department in general to minimize particle counts and improve overall sanitation.
