About The Position

Texas Oncology is seeking a Pharmacy Technician (IV Admixture) to join their team, supporting the Lakeway location with travel to other Austin sites on Fridays. This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, with no weekend, call, or major holiday work. The position can be filled at Level 1, 2, or Sr, depending on the candidate's experience. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Entry level to three years experience in a pharmacy (for Level 1).
  • Minimum three to five years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills (for Level 2).
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board requirement recommended (for Level 2).
  • Minimum five to seven years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills (for Level Sr).
  • Oncology background preferred or extensive I.V. preparation experience (for Level Sr).
  • Completion of an ASHP accredited program or community college based program recommended (for Level Sr).

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a physician.
  • Checks all orders for completeness of information. Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization.
  • Under direct supervision, admixes drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines, and preparing all drugs within OSHA guidelines and interoffice guidelines.
  • Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
  • Assists in counting controlled drugs weekly and maintain records.
  • Properly disposes all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
  • Assists in cleaning hoods daily checking drugs monthly for outdates and other quality assurance activities as assigned.
  • Assists in keeping accurate temperature logs, accurate logs on all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
  • Maintains proper control documentation of medications including lot numbers.
  • Provide support with inventory control of medications.
  • Prepares labels.
  • Files and prepares billing.
  • Basic data entry into department automation.
  • Ordering of medication and supplies as directed.
  • Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admix area and the pharmacy department in general to minimize particle counts and improve overall sanitation.
