About The Position

Texas Oncology is seeking a Pharmacy/Admixture Technician to join their team at the Ft Worth, Tx location. This role supports the Ft Worth location with hours from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Travel will primarily be within the DFW area but may extend statewide based on business needs. The Pharmacy/Admixture Technician, under the direct supervision of a physician in a clinic admixture room, performs technical, non-judgmental medication preparation tasks. With minimal supervision, they are responsible for record-keeping and inventory control. All tasks are subject to verification by a registered nurse or pharmacist. Specific state laws may restrict licensed individuals from performing certain compounding or mixing responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Entry level to three years experience in a pharmacy.
  • Minimum three to five years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board requirement recommended.
  • Minimum five to seven years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills.
  • Oncology background preferred or extensive I.V. preparation experience.
  • Completion of an ASHP accredited program or community college based program recommended.

Nice To Haves

  • V. certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a physician.
  • Checks all orders for completeness of information. Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization.
  • Under direct supervision, admixes drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines, and preparing all drugs within OSHA guidelines and interoffice guidelines.
  • Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
  • Assists in counting controlled drugs weekly and maintain records.
  • Properly disposes all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
  • Assists in cleaning hoods daily checking drugs monthly for outdates and other quality assurance activities as assigned.
  • Assists in keeping accurate temperature logs, accurate logs on all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
  • Maintains proper control documentation of medications including lot numbers.
  • Provide support with inventory control of medications.
  • Prepares labels.
  • Files and prepares billing.
  • Basic data entry into department automation.
  • Ordering of medication and supplies as directed.
  • Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admix area and the pharmacy department in general to minimize particle counts and improve overall sanitation.
