About The Position

This is a full-time Pharmacist position. The role involves educating healthcare professionals and patients on medication, compounding and dispensing prescribed medications, and performing professional and technical activities related to medication distribution, drug inventory, and patient records. The Pharmacist will also supervise technicians, ensure compliance with policies and regulations for patient safety, and take responsibility for medication orders from review to delivery. This includes clarifying orders, ensuring accuracy, and intervening when drug therapy problems are identified. The role also requires visually interpreting physician orders, selecting appropriate products for accurate dose preparation, and adhering to internal procedures for controlled substance verification, waste documentation, and checking for expired drugs. Regular duties include nursing unit inspections, narcotics audits, and attending nursing/pharmacy meetings.

Requirements

  • Pharm D required
  • Must have a current license in the state of Texas.
  • Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with physicians and various other hospital personnel.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 3 years of experience in a hospital pharmacy is desirable.
  • BLS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Educate healthcare professionals and patients on medication as well as compounding and dispensing prescribed medications for patient care.
  • Perform professional and technical activities associated with distribution of medications, maintenance of drug inventory, patient records and patient financial records.
  • Supervise technicians for assigned areas. Adhere to policies, procedures and regulations to ensure compliance and patient safety.
  • Accept total responsibility for orders including review, clarification, order entry, accuracy, preparation, follow up and delivery to the correct unit. Identify, intervene and assure resolution when problems involving drug therapy are identified.
  • Visually, read and interpret physician’s orders including drug product, strength, dosage, start and stop time, initial inventory quantity, etc. Assure that appropriate products are selected to prepare the dose accurately.
  • Routinely follow internal procedures in the pharmacy and on nursing units to verify controlled substance inventories, minimize drug diversion and document wastes or missing doses.
  • Routinely check for expired drugs.
  • Routinely perform nursing unit inspections, narcotics audits, nursing/pharmacy meetings.
