About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, the Pharmacist will be responsible for having a working knowledge of all areas of pharmaceutical services provided by Central Valley Specialty Hospital, including drug distribution systems, central operations, and IV admixture. She/he will interpret physician’s orders for medications, compound and dispense prescribed drugs. The Pharmacist will maintain records on all medication orders filled for inpatient use and compute and record charges. The Pharmacist will evaluate pharmacological, chemical, or physical incompatibilities in physician’s orders, and communicate the evaluation to physicians. She/he will participate in distribution of medications to patients as well as educate them on their medications. She/he will dispense floor stock controlled substances and maintain inventory records. The Pharmacist will respond to emergency needs of the department at any time when called upon by the Director or designee. She/he will advise the Director of malfunctioning equipment, maintenance problems, and any unusual situations, occurrences, conditions, reactions, or effects including those related to drugs, drug requests, usage or security. She/he must be able to work cooperatively with all hospital employees and patients and encourage and maintain good personal and business relationships with them. In addition to the daily on-site activity, the Pharmacist will be available as needed for on-call service. He/she may assist in the teaching of students and house staff where applicable. The Pharmacist must perform other duties as needed. This position does not provide direct patient care.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy.
CA State licensure.
Must meet requirement of 30 hours of continuing education every two (2) years.

Reports any accidents, injuries, and unsafe equipment and conditions to supervisor by the end of the shift and reports any pre-existing conditions as identified by the ADA.
Immediately reports and corrects, if possible, unsafe conditions or equipment.
Complies with relevant regulations, standards and policies governing safe workplace environment (OSHA, Accreditation, etc.).
Maintains current knowledge of all aspects of the facility’s safety program by attending safety-related training as mandated upon hire and thereafter as required by facility.
Accepts modified work assignments after receiving the physician’s release to return to work following an accident/ injury.
Follows the prescribed/recommended treatment given by treating physician(s) after an accident/injury.
Participates in required in-services and educational programs on an ongoing basis.
Follows all facility guidelines outlining standards of attendance and punctuality.
Responsible for reporting to and completing work at assigned times.
Universal precautions will be observed in order to prevent contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials.
Under circumstances in which differentiation between body fluid types is difficult or impossible, all body fluids shall be considered potentially infectious materials.
All blood or other potentially infectious materials will be considered infectious regardless of the status.
Tasks involve light contact with moist body substances, non-intact skin or mucous membranes. Department procedures define and require use of minimum protective measures to perform the task.
Tasks involve no contact with moist body substances, non-intact skin or mucous membranes; however, employment may require performing unplanned Category I task. Appropriate protective measures are readily available.
Tasks of employment involve no contact with moist body substance, non-intact skin or mucous membranes. The employee must have the ability to perform essential functions without posing a “direct threat” in the workplace.
