About The Position

The Overnight Pharmacist will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and dispensing medication orders, ensuring accuracy and advising on interventions. This role involves managing pharmacy operations, supervising staff, performing administrative duties, and assessing the identity, strength, and purity of medications. The pharmacist will also provide educational information to patients, healthcare professionals, and pharmacy students, analyze prescribing trends, and manage pharmaceutical inventory. Collaboration with other healthcare professionals is key to planning, monitoring, and evaluating drug regimens. Additionally, the pharmacist will compound and dispense medications, prepare sterile solutions if IV certified, and maintain all necessary records and procedures according to legal requirements.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited University with a B.S. in Pharmacy (R.Ph.) or a Doctorate of Pharmacy (Pharm. D.)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Current Pharmacist License issued by Texas State Board of Pharmacy
  • CE credits must be maintained according to the Texas State Board of Pharmacy guidelines

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, reviews and dispenses medication orders by interpreting physician orders and detecting therapeutic incompatibility and advising on interventions.
  • Manage pharmacy operations, supervising staff, performing administrative duties, and buying and selling non-pharmaceutical merchandise.
  • Assess the identity, strength and purity of medications.
  • Teach pharmacy students serving as interns in preparation for their graduation or licensure.
  • Provide educational information for other pharmacists, doctors, and/or nursing staff for the benefit of patients.
  • Review prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability.
  • Provide information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage and proper medication storage.
  • Analyze prescribing trends to monitor patient compliance and to prevent excessive usage or harmful interactions.
  • Order and purchase pharmaceutical supplies, medical supplies, and drugs under supervision, maintaining stock and storing and handling it properly.
  • Maintain records, such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, charge system files, inventories, and registries of hazardous drugs, narcotics, and controlled drugs.
  • Collaborate with other health care professionals to plan, monitor, review, and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of drugs and drug regiments, providing advice on drug applications and characteristics.
  • Compound and dispense medications as prescribed by doctors and nursing staff, by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients, or oversee these activities.
  • Prepare sterile solutions and infusions for use in nursing homes, when IV certified.
  • Plan, implement, and maintain procedures for mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security and proper disposal.
  • Indirect supervisor of pharmacy technicians when on duty.
