About The Position

This opportunity is in Northern Arizona where Hopi and Navajo Nation meet. You will be working five minutes from Canyon de Chelly, one of the largest, and most significant archaeological preserves in the U.S. The Tsaile Health Center is an ambulatory care center and is situated at the base of the Lukachukai Mountain range with local elevations of 7,000 to 8,000 feet. Two lakes are within 10-15 minutes and offer camping, fishing, and non-motorized boating. The Tsaile Health Center has 9,031 registered clients. Clinic hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday (closed on holidays). The clinic is located on the Colorado Plateau with excellent opportunities for photography, hiking, running, road biking, cross-country skiing, and mountain biking. Canyon de Chelly National Monument is within 30 miles of the clinic and is a wonderful place for exploring and sightseeing, running and mountain biking. This role aims to alleviate the healthcare shortage in one of the most underserved regions in the U.S.

Requirements

  • Must have a degree from a school of pharmacy approved by a state-accrediting agency.
  • Shall possess a current, active, unrestricted license from any of the 50 United States, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or the District of Columbia.
  • Shall maintain continuing education/certification and have a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a pharmacist within the past 36 months.
  • Shall meet all background investigation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Navigate and utilize EHR systems for managing medical records within Indian Health Services.
  • Process prescriptions accurately in adherence to medical guidelines.
  • Verify prescription completeness, appropriateness, and interactions as per policies.
  • Provide medication instructions and address medical queries following protocols.
  • Manage controlled medications and document patient medical information according to guidelines.
  • Engage in the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model for patient care.
  • Conduct specific medical orientations for new pharmacists on Client practices and policies.
  • Maintain accurate medical records within established timelines.
  • Participate in ongoing medical quality improvement programs aligned with Client protocols and standards.
  • Screen patient charts to align medication orders with chart notes, lab work, vitals, and allergies.
  • Process new medication orders and fulfill prescription orders as required.
  • Ensure accuracy of filled prescription orders.
  • Educate patients on medication therapy and provide necessary information.
  • Collaborate with the pharmacy team and providers for timely and accurate pharmaceutical services.
  • Address provider inquiries regarding drug therapy and ensure proper medication dispensation.
  • Recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies and adverse reactions to medications.
  • Handle telephone calls, refill requests, and input outside prescriptions into the system.
  • Conduct controlled substance audits as directed.
  • Assist with order organization and perform patient pill counts at the pharmacy window when necessary.
