Responsibilities

  • Manage pharmacy operations during their shift, including providing advice to clients and healthcare providers, utilizing their full scope of practice to provide professional services, dispensing medications, and assisting with dispensary maintenance.
  • Welcome all customers entering the pharmacy.
  • Practice within the federal and provincial regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Ensure all privacy requirements are met, including client confidentiality and consent management.
  • Offer consultations on prescription, over-the-counter, and behind-the-counter medications.
  • Utilize full scope of practice to provide professional services within their capabilities.
  • Be clearly identifiable to the public.
  • Ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of all dispensed prescriptions.
  • Communicate with other healthcare professionals within the circle of care to provide customer service.
  • Maintain all required records in accordance with legislation, standards of practice, and policies.
  • Control access to the dispensary regarding stock and patient confidentiality.
  • Review and maintain daily operational workflow queues.
  • Regularly review "call back" bins according to established SOPs.
  • Review stock for expired inventory.
  • Oversee current stock levels and wholesale drug orders.
  • Ensure all documentation and controlled substance requirements under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and regulations are met and report to Health Canada and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure workstations for input and pickup, consultation and waiting areas, and work islands reflect an appropriate pharmacy image.
  • Participate in financial reporting, if applicable.
  • Read and execute communications to stores on the Intra-store.
  • Write incident reports when an incident involving a client or staff medication or privacy-related incidents occur.
  • Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed to provide a healthy and safe work environment.
  • Complete mandatory training and optional continuing education workshops as required.
