About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Clinical Operations and in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer and CEO, this position compounds or dispenses prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals to patients ensuring accuracy while maintaining the overall flow of the pharmacy functions and overseeing Pharmacy Technicians. The requirements include patient service, medication distribution, inventory control systems and the knowledge of pharmacy operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college or university.
  • Must be licensed to practice in the State of Michigan and have a minimum of three years of experience with current knowledge of pharmacy laws.
  • Ability to perform mathematical functions necessary for interpreting and reporting information relative to the clinical, administrative and operational activities of the pharmacy.
  • High level of analytical and problem-solving abilities; ability to draw a valid conclusion after consulting/viewing data from various resources.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Strong organization skills with excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to discuss drug therapies with providers.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters.
  • Flexible, with the ability to work independently and with minimal guidance.
  • Must be CPR certified
  • General computer proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in retail/community practice setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews prescriptions issued by Physician or other authorized prescriber to assure accuracy and determine formulas and ingredients needed.
  • Compounds medications, using standard formulas and processes such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients.
  • Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals.
  • Review patient prescription profiles to prevent drug/drug interactions and drug/allergy interactions.
  • Supervises pharmacy staff engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain a drug formulary that allows practitioners to provide appropriate drug therapy while properly utilizing resources of both the patient and his/her third party.
  • Consult physicians, mid-level practitioners, and nurses on drug therapy, giving recommendations based on primary literature and practice guidelines as well as patient variables and drug cost.
  • Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurances, security of controls substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.
  • Enters data such as patient name, prescribed medication, and cost, to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory.
  • Maintains a courteous, helpful and conscientious attitude in dealing with co-workers and patients and their families, ensuring professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
  • Conforms to all State and company regulations, policies, work practices and instructions.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
