In institutional settings, duties may extend to unit dose dispensing, IV admixtures, compounding, and working with automated dispensing devices, while also providing pharmaceutical care across various age groups and adhering to regulations. The role may involve decentralized clinical functions like patient counseling and medication reconciliation, or centralized functions such as dispensing and overseeing clinical operations. Pharmacy services can span across multiple specialties including acute care surgery, neurology, cardiology, pediatrics, oncology, infusion services, intensive care, general medicine, dialysis, transplant, antimicrobial stewardship, and medication reconciliation.
