Wilson Health is seeking a PRN (As Needed) Pharmacist for its location in Sidney, Ohio, serving the North Dayton, Ohio area. Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Current, unrestricted Ohio Pharmacist License required.
  • Hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) - EPIC and automated dispensing systems preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or obtained within required timeframe.

Responsibilities

  • Compounds and dispenses prescribed medications and other pharmaceuticals for patients.
  • Counsels, advises, and educates patients, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare workers on the appropriate use of medications to ensure safe utilization.
  • Evaluates physician medication orders for appropriateness based on patient condition, allergies, organ function, disease state, laboratory values, medication history, and concomitant therapies.
  • Processes physician orders by entering them into the pharmacy computer system, selecting appropriate products, compounding, labeling, repackaging, and maintaining required documentation.
  • Verifies the accuracy of medications prepared by Pharmacy Technicians and delegates responsibilities within legal and organizational guidelines.
  • Provides clinical consultation and drug information to healthcare professionals regarding medication therapy, dosing, compatibility, interactions, adverse effects, and appropriate drug utilization.
  • Counsels and educates patients and caregivers regarding medication therapy, adherence, side effects, and safe medication use.
  • Responds to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (Code Blue) and other emergency situations when requested.
  • Participates in the on-call pharmacist rotation as assigned.
  • Assists in maintaining appropriate pharmacy inventory levels, including procurement of non-formulary medications when clinically indicated.
  • Ensures medications are accurately charged and billed to patients and appropriate departments.
  • Monitors medication storage throughout the organization to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Ensures all controlled substances are purchased, stored, distributed, documented, and reconciled in compliance with state and federal regulations and hospital policies.
  • Monitors anticoagulation therapy for clinic patients, recommends therapy adjustments, and communicates recommendations to nursing staff and providers.
  • Participates in departmental quality improvement initiatives, medication safety activities, and pharmacist intervention documentation.
  • Serves on hospital committees and interdisciplinary teams as assigned.
  • Assists with orientation, education, and training of new employees, pharmacy residents, students, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Maintains current knowledge of medications, pharmacy practice standards, regulatory requirements, and emerging therapies.
  • Effectively communicates with physicians, managers, staff, patients, families, and outside agencies while providing age-appropriate pharmaceutical care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
  • Fosters positive working relationships with all members of the healthcare team and collaborates effectively across departments.
  • Utilizes Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR), EOH, automated dispensing systems, and other pharmacy technologies.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy or designee.
