About The Position

This position supports hospital pharmacy operations by ensuring physician orders are reviewed and processed, and medications are dispensed to patients in a timely and safe manner. The role requires compliance with all Hospital and departmental policies, as well as state and federal laws. Key responsibilities include evaluating drug orders for appropriateness, processing orders, delegating tasks to pharmacy technicians, consulting with healthcare professionals and patients, maintaining drug storage and inventory, supervising technician-prepared products, participating in hospital committees and performance improvement activities, assisting the Director of Pharmacy, orienting new personnel, and responding to cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Level Degree
  • Valid Indiana Pharmacist License
  • Computer Skills - required to work with several programs at once (Word, Excel, Omnicell, Rx30, EHR systems)
  • Must exercise sound administrative and professional judgement
  • Requires the ability to work efficiently under broad guidelines and must frequently exercise judgement in decision making
  • Requires very high degree of accuracy
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Abides by all HIPAA (Health Information and Portability Accountability Act) guidelines
  • Abides by all hospital and departmental policies and procedures
  • Age Requirement: 18+

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates providers drug orders for appropriateness to promote optimal patient outcomes, including collection and interpretation of patient data.
  • Processes provider drug orders, delegating product prep activities to pharmacy technicians when appropriate.
  • Consults with various health care professionals and provides information and guidance concerning appropriate drug use. Interacts directly with patients to elicit information or provide education.
  • Assists in ensuring drug storage locations are maintained properly, and that pharmacy inventory is maintained at appropriate levels.
  • Reviews and assumes responsibility for products prepared by pharmacy technicians under their supervision.
  • Participates in and/or provides support to hospital committees to help establish drug-related policies and monitor use.
  • Participates in departmental and hospital performance improvement activities to promote quality in the medication use process.
  • Assists Director of Pharmacy in managing daily departmental activities.
  • Assists in orienting new personnel and/or students.
  • Responds to cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures as requested.
