About The Position

The Retail Pharmacy at Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center is seeking a Per Diem Pharmacist to ensure the efficient workflow of the retail pharmacy. This role involves timely and accurate prescription filling, maintenance of patient profiles, and adjudication of prescriptions. The pharmacist will also be responsible for ordering medications and supplies, maintaining inventory, and providing drug information to healthcare professionals and patients. Additionally, the role focuses on performance improvement, customer satisfaction, and adherence to standards and regulations. This position is part of the Atlantic Health System Pharmacy Departments which service multiple outpatient areas, including retail pharmacy services. The retail pharmacies provide prescription medication services to patients and the local community in a convenient location on the first floor of the hospital, inside the Corner Store Gift Shop. A key service is having discharge prescriptions filled and ready for pick-up before patients leave the hospital, simplifying the discharge process. The Pharmacy Department collaborates with physicians and nurses to ensure medication safety and effectiveness, with pharmacists integrated into care teams to provide real-time medication information.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge to ensure the workflow of the retail pharmacy is maintained in an efficient manner.
  • Ability to ensure prescriptions are filled in a timely manner, including the accurate maintenance of patient profiles.
  • Ability to ensure that all prescriptions are adjudicated and rejections are acted upon.
  • Ability to ensure accurate ordering of medications and supplies through approved vendors.
  • Ability to ensure inventory is maintained appropriately.
  • Ability to check prescriptions accurately, making corrections to patient profiles if necessary.
  • Ability to legibly sign all paperwork and/or labels associated with these processes.
  • Ability to review patient profiles to assure appropriate therapy based on patient specific information.
  • Ability to review and transcribe all medication orders including specialized orders based on approved protocols accurately and timely.
  • Ability to dispense medications, prescriptions, miscellaneous items accurately and promptly.
  • Ability to process requests via phone, window, fax, and computer in a professional and timely manner.
  • Ability to obtain medications when needed to provide optimal patient care using economical or alternative options.
  • Ability to provide drug information to physicians, nurses, other health care professionals, and patients/family members.
  • Demonstrates and shares knowledge of various drug information resources and knows how to research and interpret data and information.
  • Ability to answer phones, window, and door promptly and in a courteous manner.
  • Able to handle problems/issues independently.
  • Ability to be professional and helpful to patients, coworkers, and allied health professionals.
  • Ability to direct and monitor technicians assisting when necessary to maintain workflow.
  • Completes all competency training.
  • Maintains professional competency by keeping abreast of current literature, new medications and therapies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of standards and regulations and maintains proper documentation.
  • Assures readiness with all regulatory agencies and compliance with department, hospital and AHS policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the documentation, implementation and monitoring of medication and patient safety initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Review and transcribe all medication orders, including specialized orders based on approved protocols, accurately and timely, verifying therapy, correct medication, route, dose, and frequency.
  • Make recommendations for alternate treatments when necessary.
  • Dispense medications, prescriptions, and miscellaneous items accurately and promptly.
  • Process requests via phone, window, fax, and computer in a professional and timely manner.
