About The Position

The Pharmacy Manager directs, manages, and supervises professional services and staff of the pharmacy department in the absence of the Pharmacy Manager. Responsible for assuring quality pharmaceutical care to all residents within the facility. Assumes fiscal responsibility of the pharmacy department. Accurately interprets, evaluates and dispenses pharmaceuticals to the nursing units including checking for appropriateness of therapy. Evaluates and recommends orders for space, material, equipment, and services necessary for efficient operation. Determines sources and establishes contracts with pharmaceutical and medical supply distributors based on the best price and pharmaceutical quality. Develops a facility drug formulary in cooperation with facility Medical Director and vendors. Controls pharmacy inventory. Assures all records and reports required by Federal and State law and facility policies are kept current and accurate. Provides information to facility physicians and other facility staff on all aspects of pharmacy and pharmaceutical care. Assures that facility policies are adhered to by the pharmacy department. Assists in writing policy/procedures for pharmacy department. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • B.S. Pharmacy with current Virginia license
  • At least one year of experience as a pharmacist in charge in an inpatient pharmacy setting.
