About The Position

This position is responsible for accurately interpreting, evaluating, and dispensing pharmaceuticals to nursing units, ensuring the appropriateness of therapy. The role involves controlling pharmacy inventory, maintaining accurate records for controlled medications, and adhering to all laws and regulations set forth by the FDA, Virginia Board of Pharmacy, and Federal law. The pharmacist will also ensure all required records and reports are current and accurate, provide information on pharmacy and pharmaceutical care to facility physicians and staff, and ensure adherence to facility policies within the pharmacy department. This role may involve assisting in writing policy or procedures and performing other duties assigned by the Pharmacy Manager. Additionally, the position may require assisting the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration.

Requirements

  • Ability to interpret, evaluate and dispense pharmaceuticals.
  • Ability to keep reports, policy and procedure controls, and pharmacy inventory up to date.
  • Ability to assure that records and reports required by Federal and State law and facility policies are adhered to.
  • Must be able to transport residents from floor to floor or outside of the facility using elevators and/or stairs since we are a multi-level facility.
  • Must be a citizen or national of the U.S., a Lawful Permanent Resident, or an alien authorized to work.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must pass two TB Skin Tests.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately interpret, evaluate and dispense pharmaceuticals to the nursing units including checking for appropriateness of therapy.
  • Control pharmacy inventory.
  • Maintain accurate control medication inventory and records.
  • Follow laws and regulations pertaining to pharmacy as set forth by FDA, Virginia Board of Pharmacy, and Federal law.
  • Assure all records and reports required by Federal and State law and facility policies are kept current and accurate.
  • Provide information to facility physicians and other facility staff on all aspects of pharmacy and pharmaceutical care.
  • Assure that facility policies are adhered to by the pharmacy department.
  • May assist in writing policy or procedures for the pharmacy department.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
  • May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
