About The Position

This role assists the pharmacist in the daily functions of the pharmacy department, specifically in an outpatient retail setting. The position involves supporting pharmacists in receiving, processing, and dispensing medications, IV solutions, and outpatient prescriptions. Responsibilities include transporting drugs and supplies, performing aseptic technique for IV preparation, handling customer interactions at the window and doors, managing the pneumatic tube system, assisting with stock replenishment and inventory, and conducting monthly nursing station audits. The role also requires demonstrating expertise in a specific pharmacy area for at least 80% of work hours, such as IV Lead Technician, Narcotic Room, Informatics and Technology, OR Pharmacy Satellite, NICU Pharmacy Satellite, Purchasing of Pharmaceuticals, Hematology/Oncology, or Out-Patient Pharmacy. Additionally, the position involves using and maintaining pharmacy technology and equipment, adhering to hospital attendance policies, aligning with organizational values, and maintaining current knowledge in the area of responsibility.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (Required)
  • One or more years of hospital-based pharmacy experience (Required)
  • Technician Registration with the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy (Required)
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPHT) (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational / Technical Degree in Pharmacy Technology or related field (Preferred)
  • Competency in at least one of the following areas of specialty may be required depending on job assignment and department: NICU, OR, Narcotic Room, IV Room, Purchasing, Pharmacy Informatics, and Technology.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting pharmacists in receiving, processing, and dispensing of all physicians' orders for medications, IV solutions, and outpatient prescriptions.
  • Transporting drugs and supplies to and from the pharmacy area.
  • Completing training in aseptic technique and performing duties of an IV technician.
  • Answering phones, attending to the window and doors, and loading/unloading the pneumatic tube system.
  • Assisting in pulling out expired medications from the main pharmacy and automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Assisting in stock replenishment and maintaining inventory.
  • Working with pharmacists in performing monthly nursing station audits.
  • Demonstrating expertise in one of the following areas at least 80% of their work hours: IV Lead Technician, Narcotic Room, Informatics and Technology, OR Pharmacy Satellite, NICU Pharmacy Satellite, Purchasing of Pharmaceuticals, Hematology / Oncology, Out-Patient Pharmacy.
  • Demonstrating technical skill in using equipment appropriate for the role, understanding equipment operation, maintaining equipment, troubleshooting problems, and using technology to increase productivity.
  • Adhering to hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.

  • Maintaining current knowledge in present areas of responsibility.
  • Attending staff meetings and completing mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
  • Demonstrating competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
  • Attending training and demonstrating usage of age-specific customer service skills (for non-clinical areas).
  • Wearing protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
