About The Position

The Pharmacist Lead job ensures the overall integrity, safety, rationality, and effectiveness of the drug use control process for all patients in the assigned geographic or specialty area, including the following patient groups: Neonates, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics. This role is crucial for the new VCU Health Chesterfield Pavilion, an ambulatory surgery center and medical office building opening in April 2027. The facility will offer comprehensive outpatient care, including surgical services, diagnostics, infusion therapy, and pharmacy services. The Pharmacist Lead will be instrumental in building the future of outpatient care from the ground up.

Requirements

  • Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy required or obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited academic program.
  • Must be available to work evenings, nights and weekends.
  • Physical: Lifting 20-50 lbs.
  • Activities: Prolonged standing, Prolonged sitting, Frequent bending, Walking (distance), Climbing (steps, ladder, other), Reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive), Repetitive motion
  • Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, Reasoning, Problem solving, Hearing, Speak clearly, Write legibly, Reading, Logical thinking

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one (1) year of pharmacy practice experience in a similar setting.
  • Previous experience with state of the art drug distribution and clinical service methods and drug information sources and retrieval and communication methods.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited academic program.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the overall integrity, safety, rationality, and effectiveness of the drug use control process for all patients.
  • Monitors, screens, and verifies all drug-related orders for assurance of proper dosage, route, dosage form, and administration schedule.
  • Ensures expedited preparation and dispensing of all dosage forms by pharmacy personnel.
  • Resolves drug therapy problems.
  • Clarifies and corrects problematic drug orders.
  • Designates pharmacy technicians to perform special assignments.
  • Counsels patients regarding the safe and proper use of their medications.
  • Resolves equipment and operational problems.
