The Intern Pharmacist performs the functions of a licensed pharmacist in preparing and providing medication distribution and drug information throughout the hospital and to the primary care team, under the general direction of the Director of Pharmacy and direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This role involves assisting with medication preparation and inventory, compounding sterile and non-sterile medications, performing dosage calculations, staying updated on pharmacy practice and sterile compounding, issuing pharmacy supplies, monitoring medication administration, performing clinical chart reviews, creating interventions to improve patient outcomes, providing drug information, following clinical guidelines, consulting with a multidisciplinary team, working in various hospital areas, counseling patients on medications, dispensing medications to automated dispensing cabinets, verifying technician preparation of compounded products, supervising Pharmacy Technicians, assisting with medication area inspections, participating in performance improvement projects, performing clerical duties, attending in-service programs and meetings, exercising care in the use of equipment, maintaining clean work areas, and performing additional tasks as directed by the Director of Pharmacy.
