About The Position

Performs the duties of a staff pharmacist under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This role involves maintaining proper narcotic documentation, ensuring accurate medication distribution, compounding medications, and assisting with patient profiles. The intern will also provide medication information and education, prepare IV admixtures and sterile products, and perform pharmacy technician duties as needed. Additional responsibilities may include drug information, medication counseling, and clinical interventions under supervision. The role also requires adherence to established policies and procedures for medication management and ensuring adequate stock levels.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains proper narcotic documentation and ensures proper distribution of narcotic medications.
  • Ensures appropriate selection of dosing, administering and monitoring of medication.
  • Dispenses medications accurately for delivery to patient care areas.
  • May compound medications.
  • Assists pharmacists with maintaining and monitoring patient profiles.
  • Provides medication information and education to medical staff and patients.
  • Prepares IV admixtures and other sterile products (i.e. TPN/ Chemo /Ophth) and unit dose non-sterile preparations, where applicable.
  • Performs pharmacy technician job duties, including preparing and replenishing medications into automated dispensing cabinets/various carts/locked cabinets/boxes/kits with final verification from a licensed pharmacist.
  • May assume additional responsibilities for providing drug information, medication counseling, clinical interventions, and other assigned projects in the inpatient and outpatient (if applicable) pharmacy with permission and supervision from the pharmacist.
  • Follows established policies and procedures relating to the ordering, receiving, storage, and distribution of medications and IV solutions.
  • Ensures that an adequate stock of medications and supplies are available to customers.
  • Able to perform and electronically document patient medication histories.
