The Cedars-Sinai Cancer Enterprise is a leader in cancer care, comprising two cancer centers and three affiliate sites. Oncology Pharmacists here collaborate closely with expert oncologists, researchers, and nurses to drive advancements in research and treatment for cancer patients, fostering personalized care and improving patient outcomes. A $10,000 sign-on bonus is currently offered to newly hired Oncology Pharmacists.

Requirements

Pharm.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited school of pharmacy
Completion of a PGY1 and/or PGY2 residency or equivalent practice experience.
Current pharmacist licensure in the State of California.
BLS certification as outlined in the Pharmacist Responsibilities in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.) and Code Blue Procedure: Pharmacy Policy and Procedure
Clinical oncology experience
Comprehensive knowledge of common disease states and pathologies.
Ability to extract pertinent information from the patient chart or other sources and relate it to the patient care plan.
Ability to assess and apply current pharmacological and biopharmaceutical principles for the selection and use of drug products in a clinical setting.
Ability to evaluate medication regimens to meet the therapeutic needs of patients.
Ability to learn and adapt to the use of automated information systems in daily practice.
Effective communication, interpersonal, organizational, prioritization, and follow-through skills

Nice To Haves

Board Certification in Oncology (BCOP) preferred
EPIC/Beacon experience preferred

Responsibilities

Providing comprehensive care for patients with various cancer-related disease states, including hematologic and solid tumors, bone marrow transplants (BMT), CAR-T, and TIL therapies.
Reviewing and verifying chemotherapy orders to ensure accuracy and safety.
Delivering patient education to inform patients about their treatments and care plans.
Monitoring therapeutic drugs to optimize drug therapy and improve patient outcomes.
Participating in oncology disease-related groups to support guideline development, updates, and new drug monographs.
Providing accurate drug information to healthcare professionals and patients.
Performing the duties of a pharmacist to support patient care needs through coordination of the medication use process, including accurate and timely review and distribution of medications.
Ensures safe and effective use of pharmacy automation and technology.
Assures appropriateness of drug selection, dose, route, duration, frequency and timing of medications by providing recommendations to prescribers on appropriate dosage adjustments, drug therapy alternatives or discontinuation of medications.
Ensures safe care through pharmacist-driven protocols and as outlined in the Clinical Service Plan.
Appropriately receives ordered medications and supplies and ensures proper storage and handling and assists in maintaining proper inventory records.
Performs labeling, packaging, obtaining medication and getting it ready for distribution and utilizes dispense prep to accurately prepare doses as required.
Responsible for coordination of sterile/non-sterile compounded medications, including accurate, timely preparation and delivery and management of controlled substances (CS) inventory, such as returns, outdates, receipts and destruction, as well as drug shortages.
Ensures compliance with controlled substances (CS) inventory requirements, such as returns, outdates, receipts and destruction.
Documents clinical interventions, including near miss prescribing events and recommendations for safe and effective medication management.
Participates in transition of care programs by performing guideline direct medication therapy reviews during transitions of care, such as admission medication history reviews, discharge medication list reviews and post discharge case management; and as defined by the department’s transitions of care program in a timely manner consistent with national standards, if applicable.
Actively supervises technicians/interns and coordinates technician/intern functions.
Provides medication education to patients/family for priority medications per departmental initiatives or if patient consultation is requested/warranted.
Actively identifies methods and approaches to simplify work processes, decrease medication wastage, and increase the quality of services provided.
Acts as a liaison in medication-related problem solving for patient care units, including but not limited to narcotic discrepancies, automated dispensing cabinet/cart discrepancies and drug storage issues.
Demonstrates change management/engagement, such as actively supporting organization and departmental initiatives and exhibits flexibility and adaptability to changes in workflows, responsibilities, work assignments, procedures, and new work situations.
Stays abreast with the medical center and departmental information, such as with emails, minutes and other department sources.
Participates in the education and training of pharmacy staff, residents, interns, students, and other healthcare professionals.
Adheres to state and federal regulations, professional and regulatory agency standards, and assures required documentation is complete, accurate and timely.
