About The Position

The Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) is responsible for the day-to-day management, control, and compliance of pharmacy operations in accordance with Health Center policies, professional standards of practice, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations, including Missouri Board of Pharmacy requirements. The PIC ensures safe, legal, and effective pharmacy practice while supporting high-quality patient care and operational excellence. The PIC serves as the pharmacist designated to the Missouri Board of Pharmacy and is accountable for ensuring pharmacy operations are conducted in compliance with all regulatory and professional requirements.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy required.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy required.
  • Licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of Missouri and in good standing; eligible to serve as Pharmacist-in-Charge.
  • Must be in good standing with both Medicaid and Medicare.
  • Ensures perpetual inventory systems are maintained, accurate, and routinely reviewed.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains overall responsibility for the operation of the pharmacy in compliance with Missouri Board of Pharmacy regulations, including supervision of compounding, dispensing, and record keeping of all medications by pharmacists, technicians, and students.
  • Ensures pharmacy compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and professional standards, including controlled substance laws and regulations.
  • Maintains accurate records of drugs for both internal and external control and ensures records are readily retrievable for inspection and audit purposes.
  • Responsible for the security, proper storage, and safeguarding of pharmaceuticals, including controlled substances.
  • Directly involved in medication dispensing and patient counseling, including the development, implementation, and oversight of systems and standards of practice to ensure safe, efficient, and effective drug distribution and quality patient care.
  • Oversees and supports the training, supervision, and performance of all pharmacy staff, technicians, interns, and students.
  • Orders drugs and supplies; responsible for administrative functions related to pharmaceutical procurement, including controlled and non-controlled medications, and maintenance of required records in accordance with local, state, and federal law.
  • Ensures perpetual inventory systems are maintained, accurate, and routinely reviewed.
  • Ensures accurate billing and documentation for medications and devices.
  • Ensures accurate patient eligibility determination for 340B prescriptions in accordance with program requirements and Health Center policies.
  • Oversees compliance with 340B billing requirements, including proper identification of 340B eligible prescriptions and appropriate claim-level billing processes.
  • Maintains complete, accurate, and auditable records and documentation related to 340B eligibility, billing, and dispensing.
  • Participates in continuous improvement efforts to strengthen 340B compliance, oversight, and program integrity.
  • Participates in Health Center staff problem solving groups.
  • Attends and participates in department meetings, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
