About The Position

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, participates as a team member or team coordinator utilizing expertise in the area of pharmacy in inspections, certification surveys, and investigations in Long Term Care facilities to determine compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and rules. Specializes in the following discipline: Pharmacy. In this front-line field position, a surveyor is mobile and flexible and performs minimal work at an office, though the role does require writing reports detailing any deficiencies/violations against a facility and narrative to support regulatory determinations.

Requirements

  • Must be licensed as a pharmacist by the State of Texas and be in good standing with the Texas State board of Pharmacy.
  • Must have Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) Certification or obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • Experience as a pharmacist.
  • Experience interpreting patient data and medication related needs.
  • Knowledge of pharmacology principles and procedures and of the laws and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage, and dispensation of drugs.
  • Knowledge of professional standards of patient care.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with team members and others.
  • Ability to multi-task and track multiple activities with competing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment and reach sound decisions.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to evaluate drug therapies.
  • Skill in operating personal computers and software.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • All applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check.

  • Experience in a Long-Term Care Regulatory program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts certification surveys, licensure inspections, or investigations in facilities to determine compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Completes inspection/survey reports listing deficiencies.
  • Communicates on a complex level with others (internally or externally) to provide, exchange, or verify information, answer inquiries, address issues, or resolve problems or complaints.
  • Testifies at hearings or in court proceedings to provide information regarding policy/procedures, history, findings, or activities.
  • Visits facilities to verify correction of previously cited regulatory deficiencies/violations.
  • Conducts exit conferences with facility staff regarding findings.
  • Performs quality assurance reviews of documents prepared by others (for example, publications, assessments, reports).
  • Acts as subject matter expert (SME) for other regional survey teams statewide.
  • In the event of emergency licensure action, be available to assist with non-skilled care and oversight to residents in a facility. If the employee is a current registered or licensed nurse, there is a potential for skilled care.
  • Be available for on-call duties for emergencies such as weather events or high-priority situations in facilities or at providers.
