About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Manager Clinical Services, the Pharmacist will collaborate with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to provide direct patient care to surgical patients in hospital. The Pharmacist will ensure that treatment of the is rational, safe, cost-effective and aligned with the person’s healthcare goals and preferences. The Surgery Pharmacist will support the patients and the team by ensuring safe and evidence based care throughout their stay. Additional duties include patient counseling, medication monitoring, student mentoring, drug utilization reviews, liaison with Community Pharmacists and education/drug information, participation in research.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a recognized School of Pharmacy
  • Eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia Pharmacy Regulator (NSPR)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • Knowledge of medication patient safety therapeutics required
  • Strong teaching ability/experience required
  • Experience in critical appraisal of scientific literature required
  • Proven effective oral and written communication skills required
  • Experience as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team required
  • Ability to prioritize work responsibilities and to work well under time pressures required
  • Demonstrated interest in professional development and lifelong learning required

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a Hospital pharmacy residency program and/or equivalent related direct patient care experience (minimal 2 years) in a hospital setting preferred
  • Knowledge of medication patient safety concepts an asset
  • Experience in evidence based clinical research an asset
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
