About The Position

The Clinical Cardiology Pharmacy Services at Brooke Army Medical Center collaborates with cardiology providers, pharmacists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to optimize cardiovascular pharmacotherapy for active-duty service members, veterans, and beneficiaries. This role focuses on evidence-based medication management, patient safety, and clinical outcomes within a high-acuity, academic military medical center.

Requirements

  • Completion of ASHP-accredited PGY2 in Cardiology Pharmacy -OR- Completion of ASHP accredited PHY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency AND 3 years of practical clinical practice experience in Cardiology Medicine with BPS board certification.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Meets standards of an ASHP-Qualified Residency Preceptor within one year of employment.
  • Bachelor's degree in pharmacy.
  • Minimum of one year of pharmacy experience within the last three years.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert clinical oversight of cardiovascular pharmacotherapy, including anticoagulation, lipid management, heart failure, arrhythmias, and ischemic heart disease.
  • Collaborate with clinical pharmacists to develop, implement, and review cardiology-related medication protocols and treatment pathways.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds with cardiology, internal medicine, critical care, and pharmacy teams.
  • Review and approve complex medication regimens for cardiology patients to ensure safety, efficacy, and compliance with clinical guidelines.
  • Support medication therapy management (MTM) initiatives and transitions for care for cardiology patients.
  • Serve as a consultant for pharmacy and medical staff regarding cardiovascular drug therapy and drug-drug interactions.
  • Contribute to quality improvement projects, patient safety initiatives, and formulary management.
  • Participate in teaching and mentoring of medical residents, pharmacy residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Comply with Department of Defense, Army Medical Department, and BAMC policies and procedures.
