About The Position
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 35 local health districts. The Richmond & Henrico County Health Districts (RHHD) are on the forefront of Public Health and Population Health. We accomplish this by exposing and addressing the root causes of health disparities and protecting health through disease prevention and monitoring, providing clinical services, nutrition services, environmental health services, vital records, emergency planning, and building health equity by partnering with communities and working collaboratively across sectors. WE ARE PUBLIC HEALTH! The Richmond and Henrico Health District is currently seeking 5 Public Health Nurses. Our PH Nurses work in program areas such as Immunization, Family Planning, STI, Communicable Disease, and may do home visits. This is a multi-fill posting and each position will work out of one of our three locations- Richmond Health Clinic (400 E. Cary St), East Henrico Health Clinic (1400 N Laburnum), or West Henrico Health Clinic (8600 Dixon Powers Drive) but may be expected to work from any other location in the community as needed. Standard work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (occasional evening and weekend hours based on community events). Mileage reimbursement is available for any work-related travel.
Requirements
- Licensure as an RN in Virginia or compact state.
- If a new graduate, must obtain RN license within 90 days of the date of hire or subject to termination per the regulations governing the practice of nursing.
- BLS certification.
- Adherence to all safety policies including a review of immunizations, driver safety policies and all other state policies.
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR.
Nice To Haves
- Additional study in health promotion/or public health is preferred.
- Experience in a public health setting or one related to disease prevention and health promotion.
Responsibilities
- Work in program areas such as Immunization, Family Planning, STI, Communicable Disease.
- May do home visits.
- Communicate verbally and in writing, to analyze problems, situations and suggest solutions, leadership, follow directions and establish priorities.
- Perform physical examination, health assessment, and interviewing and counseling techniques.
- Function independently, prioritize and organize work, solve problems, adapt to change, function as a team member and relate to the public.
- Apply knowledge of public health concepts, principles of public health nursing, principles of epidemiology; immunizations; basic nursing science, medical terminology, case management.
- Maintain timely compliance with all Employee Health requirements, including but not limited to HCP-required immunizations, health screenings, respiratory protections, and relevant trainings, as mandated by organizational policy and applicable regulatory standards.
- Maintain active BLS certification.
- Complete all required program competency trainings.
