About The Position

The Georgia Department of Public Health is the lead agency entrusted by the people of Georgia to protect lives and promote healthy lifestyles in diverse communities statewide. As a PH Environmental Health Specialist at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, which includes the completion of 27 semester or 40 quarter hours in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.).
  • Must have strong communication and time management abilities.
  • Must be able to work in various climates both outdoor and indoor.
  • Frequent standing, bending, walking.
  • May require occasional lifting of 25 to 40lbs.
  • Work involves daily traveling within county for inspection duties.
  • Criminal history record check.
  • Required education credentials, license, certification and/or registration must be submitted prior to employment.
  • Pre-employment drug testing may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to evaluate programs for compliance with Georgia Environmental Regulations and perform public health inspections of the following: On-Site Sewer Management Systems, Animal Bite Investigations, Food Service Establishments, Public Swimming Pools, Tourist Accommodations, Body Art Studios
  • Respond to public health emergencies as requested.
  • Participate in emergency functions as an essential employee.
  • Drive a personal vehicle and/or company vehicle for work daily.
  • Perform inspection duties within the county.
  • Other duties as assigned.
