About The Position

The Georgia Department of Public Health is the lead agency entrusted by the people of Georgia to protect lives and promote healthy lifestyles in diverse communities statewide. As a PH Environmental Health Specialist at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, which includes the completion of 27 semester or 40 quarter hours in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.).
  • Must be able to drive a personal vehicle and/or company vehicle for work daily
  • Must have strong communication and time management abilities
  • Must be able to work in various climates both indoor and outdoor
  • Frequent standing, bending, walking.
  • May require occasional lifting of 25 to 45lbs.
  • Work involves daily traveling within county for inspection duties

Nice To Haves

  • All county public health employees are deemed essential in the event of an emergency and are required to participate in emergency functions.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, assists in performing inspections, interviews, and technical reviews for an environmental health program in a public health department.
  • Assists in investigating complaints and recommending enforcement action as necessary.
  • Under direct supervision, will learn to evaluate programs for compliance with Georgia Environmental Health Regulations and perform public health inspections of the following: On-site Sewage Management Systems, Animal Bite Investigations, Food Service Establishments, Public Swimming Pools, Tourist Accommodations, Body Art Studios
  • Under direct supervision, will respond to public health emergencies as requested.
  • Must be able to drive a personal vehicle and/or company vehicle for work daily
  • Must have strong communication and time management abilities
  • Must be able to work in various climates both indoor and outdoor
  • Other duties as assigned
