About The Position

This position is for a PGY 1 Pharmacy Resident at Methodist Healthcare. The resident will be responsible for administrative and clinical projects, working with medical staff to optimize drug therapy for inpatients or outpatients, reviewing and approving drug orders, compounding and dispensing medications, providing drug information to healthcare professionals and patients, and developing and implementing drug use policy. The role involves direct patient care in inpatient and outpatient settings, pharmaceutical care in acute clinical settings, and contributing to the planning, development, and quality assurance of departmental services. The resident will also develop and complete a project and present educational materials.

Requirements

  • Doctorate Pharmacy
  • No prior work experience required
  • Pharmacist Tennessee - Tennessee Board of Pharmacy license
  • Knowledge of pharmacy principles and procedures
  • Ability to understand complex written materials
  • Normal eye-motor coordination, manual dexterity and visual perception
  • Ability to communicate both orally and written with all levels of Associates, management, physicians, patients and their families
  • Ability to plan and schedule tasks and projects to maintain control of own and others work flow
  • Skill in developing and implementing short-range and long-range plans and programs
  • Ability to work without close supervision or professional guidance and exercise independent judgment
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations

Responsibilities

  • Participates in and provides direct care to patients in the inpatient and outpatient care setting.
  • Participates in and provides pharmaceutical care to patients in the acute clinical care setting.
  • Provides services relating to drug information and drug use policy, to health care providers and patients in the acute and ambulatory clinical care setting.
  • Participates in the planning, development, and quality assurance of departmental services.
  • Provides distributional and clinical pharmacy services.
  • Develops and completes a project.
  • Develops and presents lectures and other educational presentations.
  • Guides the activities of Pharmacy technicians and students in the assigned work area.
