About The Position

Under the guidance of the Residency Program Director and preceptors, the Health Mart McKesson PGY1 Community-based Pharmacy Resident obtains advanced, supervised professional experience in community pharmacy practice and patient care service development. The resident provides day-to-day clinical pharmacy services, implements innovative care models, and participates in business and leadership activities to advance community-based pharmacy practice. Residents collaborate with healthcare teams, patients, and business partners to improve health outcomes and expand access to care. They are expected to work independently while adhering to program standards and McKesson Health Mart’s mission of empowering independent pharmacies to thrive.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE-accredited school or college of pharmacy.
  • Eligible for Texas pharmacist licensure.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Typically, minimum 0-2 years of relevant experience.
  • May have degree or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Direct Patient Care: Deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based care for diverse patient populations, including those with complex conditions and multiple medications.
  • Manage Medication Use Systems: Ensure the accuracy, safety, and efficiency of medication dispensing within the pharmacy practice setting.
  • Lead and Advance Practice: Demonstrate leadership in pharmacy practice by contributing to organizational initiatives, advocating for patient care services, and supporting organizational goals.
  • Educate and Precept: Provide education to patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and student pharmacists; develop teaching skills through formal and informal learning activities.
  • Conduct Practice-Based Research and Quality Improvement: Design, implement, and evaluate projects that improve patient care and pharmacy services, and disseminate findings through presentations or publications.
