About The Position

The Business Office Manager oversees the daily operations of Patient Financial Services to support the financial health of Grand River Hospital District. This position leads revenue cycle activities while ensuring efficient workflows, regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service. Working closely with the Patient Financial Services Director, the manager identifies opportunities for improvement and helps drive departmental performance and accountability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred, with experience in a healthcare business office or similar administrative setting.
  • Strong knowledge of billing, collections, third-party reimbursement requirements, coding, provider documentation, and revenue cycle operations within a primary care or multi-specialty environment.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements related to billing operations, including HIPAA, STARK I and II, compliance programs, and chart auditing practices.
  • Advanced computer proficiency with the ability to develop and analyze financial data using Microsoft Excel and other business applications; Meditech experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and customer service skills, with the ability to become proficient within six months in HealthStream, HealthCare Source, Kronos, Instamed, Meditech, Experian/SSI, the Medicaid Portal, and other systems used by GRHD.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate Business Office staff to promote high performance and adherence to departmental standards.
  • Oversee billing, claims submission, collections, and accounts receivable activities to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement.
  • Monitor denied and outstanding claims, implement effective follow-up strategies, and improve collection outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and workflows in collaboration with the Director.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports, budgets, and operational metrics to support planning and decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable federal, state, local, and payer regulations.
  • Respond to patient billing inquiries and collaborate with internal departments to support a positive patient financial experience.
