About The Position

The Lifeguard at Petro Pool, under the direct supervision of the Aquatic Director, creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. The Community Pool is open from June 22nd to August 16th. Hours are Monday through Sunday, 11:00am-5:00pm (subject to change with extra programming). A regular schedule will be provided. Must be available to work at least 3 shifts per week to be eligible for employment. OUR CULTURE: Our mission and core values are brought to life by our culture. Requirements

  • Minimum age of 17
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguarding or American Red Cross Lifeguarding and obtain or renew Lifeguarding Certification asap or within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness.
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Must be available to work at least 3 shifts per week to be eligible for employment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains constant surveillance of the swim area by sustaining a sit, stand, and stroll pattern in order to remain vigilant throughout their shift while on duty.
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area
  • Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergencies immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Completes related reports as required.
  • Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
  • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed
  • Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving – before opening to the public.
  • Attends all staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Maintains certifications listed under Certificates, Licenses.
  • Receives and carries out instructions.
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times; wears clothing that meets the YMCA dress code.
  • Other duties as assigned.
