About The Position

Under the direction of an authorized user, the PET/CT Technologist is responsible for the use of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation to generate fusion images for diagnostic and research purposes. This role involves injecting and administering PET radiopharmaceuticals, assaying activities, calculating concentrations, and performing laboratory procedures. The technologist will also review patient medical history, instruct patients, evaluate patient preparation, and recognize emergency conditions. Key responsibilities include maintaining intravenous access, operating Nuclear Medicine Instrumentation, performing quality control, and potentially supervising other staff, managing supplies, documenting operations, and participating in radiation safety and quality assurance programs.

Requirements

CNMT/ARRT(N) - Nuclear Med Techs CNMT or ARRT(N)
Registered with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)(N)
BLS - Basic Life Support (Within 1 month of hire or transfer)
Associates Degree
Degree in Healthcare Related Field
Knowledge of Nuclear Medicine Technology as normally acquired through completion of an Associate's Degree in Applied Science and 1700 hours of clinical instruction.
Two years of clinical experience as a Nuclear Medicine technologist.
Operating knowledge of personal computers and medical charting systems.

Responsibilities

Injects and administers all PET radiopharmaceuticals, assays radiopharmaceutical activities, and calculates volume and activity concentrations.
Performs laboratory procedures including measurement, manipulation, and preparation of radiopharmaceutical kits and unit doses.
Reviews patient's medical history, instructs patients before, during, and following procedures, and evaluates patient preparation.
Recognizes emergency patient conditions and initiates lifesaving first aid when appropriate.
Establishes intravenous (IV) access using appropriate site selection and aseptic techniques.
Conducts Blood Glucose Testing per protocol.
Operates all Nuclear Medicine Instrumentation devices and adheres to Quality Control requirements for all equipment.
Wears appropriate radiation monitoring devices during radiation exposures.
Produces high-quality diagnostic and research imaging with little supervision.
Provides patient care, performs instrumentation and quality control, and possesses knowledge of radiation safety.
Functions effectively in a team-oriented environment and performs injection procedures.
Operates personal computers and medical charting systems.
Interacts with patients, University personnel, and customers in a responsible, professional, and ethical manner.
Adheres to Joint Commission Quality Standards, including CPR, immunizations, training, and Infection Control.
