Job Summary: The Pest Control Technician Lead oversees pest management, ensuring effective control of rodents, insects, birds, and weeds while following safety and biosecurity protocols. Responsibilities include leading the pest control team, training and certifying staff handling chemicals, and maintaining compliance with regulations. The Lead must hold an applicator’s license to purchase and supervise restricted chemicals. Duties include monitoring, inspections, treatment applications, and maintaining documentation to ensure a pest-free environment.

  • Basic knowledge of pest biology and behavior, particularly rodents, flies, insects, and birds.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous pest control, agricultural, or related experience preferred.
  • Pest control certification or related experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and servicing pest control systems, including rodent traps, bait stations, and bug lights, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe handling and application of pesticides, herbicides, and fumigation procedures is an advantage.
  • Experience with mechanical equipment, such as weed control tools (e.g., tractors or weed whackers), is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and ensure proper monitoring, inspection, and servicing of rodent traps and bait stations per the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan.
  • Adjust work schedules for staff as needed to meet pest control demands.
  • Log findings, monitor bait levels daily, and apply corrective actions as necessary.
  • Conduct perimeter and floor inspections in barns, identify problem areas, implement corrective measures, and report to management.
  • Schedule and oversee the application of pest control sprays in designated areas based on activity levels.
  • Monitor and spray break areas, office areas, and the Breaker Plant as needed.
  • Ensure manure pits in high-rise houses are treated every six weeks after manure removal.
  • Apply appropriate insecticides and treatments to prevent fly and insect infestations.
  • Maintain and service fly bait stations weekly and inspect bug lights bi-weekly.
  • Use scatter bait and perform fly indexing monthly, implementing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Supervise the application of insecticides to facility exteriors and dry storage areas at scheduled intervals.
  • Ensure Lay Houses receive proper spider treatments after hen removal and cleaning procedures.
  • Plan and implement weed control strategies to maintain a weed-free environment using herbicides or mechanical methods.
  • Oversee the safe use of weed control equipment, ensuring proper application and compliance with safety protocols.
  • Immediately report bird sightings inside facilities and coordinate their safe removal.
  • Set up nets or use other methods to remove birds and prevent future intrusion.
  • Remove nests and install deterrents to reduce the risk of bird-related contamination.
  • Supervise and train the team on proper fumigation procedures, ensuring buildings are properly sealed and safety signage is in place.
  • Conduct fogging after cleaning procedures in Lay Houses and ensure personnel clearance.
  • Apply disinfectants and virus control measures during fumigation to maintain biosecurity.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and biosecurity protocols.
  • Report any safety concerns or biosecurity issues immediately to management.
