About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Manager III, Safety, the Pest Control Manager is responsible for managing the Pest Control Program that will enable the School Board to coordinate an integrated pest management system more effectively and safely.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Entomology, Ecology, Biology, or related sciences or a minimum of five (5) years experience using Integrated Pest Management procedures in structural pest control.
  • Florida Certified Pest Control Operator.
  • Certification in the following categories: General Household Pest and Rodent Control (GHP), Lawn and Ornamental Pest Control (L&O)
  • Ability to communicate effectively as evidenced by clarity and conciseness of oral presentation and submitted documents.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and evaluates the various contracted pest control companies.
  • Establishes and maintains an inspection program.
  • Establishes and maintains a monitoring program, whereby, various non-toxic pest control products i.e., glue boards will be used to determine if a pest control problem exists.
  • Establishes and maintains a training program, whereby, all zone mechanics and head custodians are trained in reference to integrated pest management techniques.
  • Acquires and maintains all written documentation relating to Federal, State of Florida, and local governmental regulations concerning pesticides and all other information concerning related research and guidelines.
  • Maintains records and files as follows: a. Pest control work order requests submitted by Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) sites. b. Individual M-DCPS site files with all information specifically relating to pest control. c. All correspondence with the EPA, M-DCPS site administrators, and various other personnel relating to pest control. d. Records of inspections by M-DCPS personnel in reference to pest control. e. Purchase requisitions, purchase orders and accounts relating to the expenditure of funds for pest control. f. Contractor work initiated to resolve pest control problems. g. M-DCPS Capital Improvement Force/Department of Maintenance work orders initiated to implement integrated pest management techniques.
  • Recommends and initiates corrective action to resolve sanitation and structural problems to establish a barrier against the infestation by pests.
  • Performs other duties related to the general administrative responsibilities of the position.
