About The Position

Under the guidance of the Healthy Living Director, the small group trainer, strength and conditioning instructor and personal trainer will have the primary responsibility for building relationships with the members and for instructing the to exercise, according to accepted YMCA fitness standards and guidelines, to help members reach their health and fitness goals. Personal trainers will customize individual programs to accommodate members needs, injuries and desired outcomes. The personal trainer is responsible for providing members with a clean, hazard-free and pleasant environment at the YMCA of the Foothills. The personal trainer is expected to provide leadership that keeps the YMCA in the forefront of the healthy lifestyle and service industry. Follows YMCA policies and procedures including but not limited to medical and disciplinary situations, emergencies, dress guidelines and cleanliness standards. Maintains positive relations and rapport with members, staff and volunteers at all time. Supports other staff and volunteers through good communication skills. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year experience instructing small group programs and working with members one on one.
  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to attract, retain, lead, and motivate members and staff
  • Ability to positively motivate members/children/participants in fitness activities.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer and results orientation.
  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.
  • Ability to be an effective member of project teams.
  • Ability to stand for long period of time
  • Ability to walk/run for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs from the floor to waist high ten to fifteen times a day

Nice To Haves

  • Have a 2 to 4 year college degree in physical fitness or related field, or personal training certification from a nationally recognized certifying board such as ACE or AFAA
