About The Position

Seeking an enthusiastic and responsible Personal Trainer to plan and lead a range of individualized or group exercise/activity sessions for clients. This role involves performing a variety of fitness programs that are both educational and motivational, providing guidance on healthy lifestyles and changes. The Personal Trainer also delivers customer service that promotes member wellness and creates a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment, aiming to increase member retention through engagement, guidance, and support. The position requires the ability to work varied shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in the health and fitness field.
  • Personal Trainer Certification through a nationally accredited organization including, but not limited to NETA, NASM, ACE, ACSM, AEA.
  • Must hold an Aqua Specialty Certification if personal training is to be done in the pool.
  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, YMCA Strength & Conditioning.
  • Formal training in the specialty class being taught and/or ability to demonstrate the movements and exercises.
  • Demonstrates customer services skills and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to lead an individual/group and motivate others to achieve their health and wellbeing goals.
  • Demonstrates ability working with a variety of age groups and ability levels.
  • Multi-task-oriented and strong communication skills.
  • Excellent time management, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to make independent and sound decisions in a changing environment.
  • Detail oriented and exhibit a high degree of accuracy and alertness.
  • Work collaboratively as a team member as well as independently with assigned goals, duties and deadlines.

  • Degree in health and science or related field or equivalent experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and instruct a variety of personal training and group training sessions for clients at an appropriate level and in the appropriate modality based on clients wants, needs, and ability.
  • Provide encouragement and expertise for the client in support of their health and well-being goals.
  • Administer, track, and evaluate health history questionnaires, fitness assessments, and other pre-participation documentation with regard to individual exercise programs.
  • Educate members in the proper use of equipment.
  • Provide a cohesive approach to customer service and training that directly impacts the participant’s commitment and personal growth.
  • Promote and sell personal training programs and services.
  • Maintain required continuing education credits (CECs) and national certifications.
  • Work effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions.
  • Build rapport and relate well to others.
  • Seek first to understand the other person’s point of view, and remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Listen for understanding and meaning; speak and write effectively.
  • Make sound judgments, and transfer learning from one situation to another.
  • Refrain from writing diets, prescribing supplements, or diagnosing/curing any type of injury or illness; always refer members to a doctor when health or well-being is questioned.
  • Embrace new approaches and discover ideas to create a better member experience.
  • Establish goals, clarify tasks, plan work, and actively participate in meetings.
  • Strive to meet or exceed goals and deliver a high-value experience for members.
  • Stay current with trends in the field and exercise industry.

  • Perform all physical aspects of the position; including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time.
