About The Position

As a Personal Trainer, you go beyond just offering challenging workouts by supporting community members in reaching their physical fitness and healthy living goals. At the Y, you are part of a team that learns and grows through mentoring and networking. Your role involves building collaborative relationships with members and partners to promote personal training and other Y programs. You will deliver individual or group training and consulting sessions across all locations, conduct classes, demos, fitness analyses, or other presentations both on-site and with Worksite Wellness partners. You are responsible for creating individualized or group goal-oriented training plans, exemplifying professionalism and servant leadership in fitness, exercise, and basic rehabilitation techniques, and ensuring the safety of all staff and children by adhering to facility protocols and reporting guidelines.

Requirements

  • A current personal training or related certification accredited through the NCCA (National Commissions for Certifying Agencies)
  • Maintain required CEC’s and certifications throughout employment
  • CPR/First Aid certifications within the first 60 days of employment
  • Successful completion of Training and Skills Assessment within 60 days of employment
  • YMCA Strength and Conditioning certification within the first six months of employment
  • Participation in Listen First and Model of Influence Training within the first six months of employment
  • Ability to prioritize workloads to meet timelines and maintain confidentiality of personal information
  • Understanding of exercise science and how it relates to working with “Health Seekers” of all ages and abilities

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum six months experience in personal training or wellness coaching
  • A degree in Exercise Physiology or related field

Responsibilities

  • Build collaborative relationships with members and community/corporate partners to promote personal training services and other Y programs/service
  • Deliver individual or group training and consulting sessions at all locations
  • Conduct classes, demos, fitness analyses, or other presentations both on-site and with Worksite Wellness partners
  • Create individualized or group goal-oriented training plans
  • Exemplify professionalism and servant leadership in the areas of fitness, exercise and basic rehabilitation techniques
  • Act according to facility protocol to ensure safety of all staff and children
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with staff and children
  • Attend required abuse risk management training
  • Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements
  • Reach specific client base goals within 90 days and throughout employment
  • Keep good records of member goals and achievements to evaluate program effectiveness and progress toward goals
  • Follow and enforce policies/procedures and use resources wisely
  • Exercise sound judgment based on experience, professional standards, and member and participant focused data; transfer learning to situations; and provide others with framework for making decisions
  • Employ tried and true fitness and nutritional advice that ensures participants’ health, safety and wellbeing
  • Demonstrate an openness to change, be aware of the impact, and seek opportunities in the change process
  • Accurately assess personal feelings, strengths and limitations and how they impact relationships
  • Behave in ways that support the Y, members, participants and staff
  • Pursue professional development opportunities to enhance job performance
  • Keep up to date with the latest fitness research and translate the information into practice
  • Actively participate in staff in-service meetings to continually learn and develop
  • Support the Y, its members, participants, and staff by living the Y’s values of CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT, and RESPONSIBILITY in all interactions and aspects of job performance
  • Demonstrate the desire to serve others and fulfill community needs
  • Seek first to understand the other person’s individual state of health and health goals in order to provide honest and meaningful guidance towards their fitness goals
  • Hold self and others accountable for quality services and results by inspiring, developing, and collaborating with each other to reach personal and team goals
