About The Position

The Personal Trainer is responsible for designing and implementing personalized training programs for members, providing safe and effective instruction, and advising clients on nutrition. This role also involves maintaining client records, attending staff meetings, and ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of training facilities. Additionally, the Personal Trainer is expected to contribute to a positive work environment, participate in community events, and adhere to YMCA values and operational procedures.

Requirements

  • Associate/Bachelor Degree in exercise science or related field, or national certification (ACE, ACSM, AFAA, NASM, NSCA).
  • YMCA Foundations of Strength and Conditioning within one year of employment.
  • Previous practical and relevant experience in the field.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
  • Obtain additional required YMCA certifications/other certifications as needed.
  • Wear appropriate staff attire.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, move, or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, move, carry 45 lbs.; and ability to occasionally lift, move, carry weights in excess of 45lbs. alone or with assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Design a personal training program based on the member’s needs and goals.
  • Provide safe, motivational instruction to each client.
  • Design a safe, effective workout grounded in acceptable exercise techniques, practicing only within the scope of education and knowledge trainer possesses.
  • Maintain accurate health screening records.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings.
  • Advise clients on good nutrition.
  • Monitor cleanliness of all training facilities.
  • Report any maintenance problems with equipment or fitness center immediately to the Fitness Director (or direct supervisor).
  • Ensure that clean towels and full bottles of disinfectant are available for your client to use on the equipment.
  • Provide friendly, courteous service to all members, clients, volunteers and staff of the Y.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment by illustrating pride in job, enthusiasm and cooperation with co-workers.
  • Participate with volunteer opportunities such as: Member Appreciation Day, Health Fairs and other YMCA sponsored community events.
  • Participate in Association program related activities such as Program Training Conferences.
  • Follow the Old Colony Y accounting policies and procedures in regards to purchasing, payroll, etc.
  • Follow budgeted guidelines for the program.
  • Reach monthly goals set by the Fitness Director
