About The Position

Under the direction of the CHF Programs Manager, this position is responsible for providing fitness instruction, orientations, assessments, and personal training for fitness center members. Personal Trainers are expected to be community role models for healthy decision-making and the pursuit of optimal health, serving as good citizens and ambassadors by demonstrating knowledge and understanding of all programs and services offered at CHF and BCHD.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, kinesiology, health promotion or related field preferred, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Current personal trainer, kinesiotherapist or its equivalent certification accredited by the NCCA, ISO 17024 or a similar approved accrediting body.
  • Must maintain active certification in one of the certification bodies approved by CHF Management.
  • One year of experience teaching fitness classes, conducting personal training sessions, conducting fitness assessments, and working with special needs populations.
  • Knowledge of conducting a fitness assessment and tailoring an individualized program accordingly.
  • Ability to build community relationships and represent BCHD core values.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a diverse range of people.
  • Ability to inspire, encourage and motivate clients and help them stay on track with their fitness goals and demonstrate emotional intelligence and empathy.
  • Excellent organizational and effective communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs and ability to learn software programs used at facility (Spectrum/Daxko, reservations system, Zoom etc.).
  • First Aid, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) methods.
  • Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
  • Simple record keeping procedures.
  • Must be able to successfully pass background check, tuberculosis test and drug screen.
  • Must have a valid Class C California driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under the District’s Employee Use of Automobiles Policy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs and ability to learn other software programs used at facility (point of sale).

Responsibilities

  • Manages all aspects of personal training for assigned clients, including completing initial and 3-month reassessment documentation, documenting referrals, demonstrating outcomes, structuring action plans, conducting fitness evaluations, keeping accurate client documentation, conducting personal training appointments, providing initial orientation, resistance training, fitness assessments and re-evaluations, and ensuring appointments and schedules are current.
  • Ensures fitness equipment is operating safely and members are using equipment appropriately.
  • Designs and instructs fitness classes conducted virtually or in a hybrid setting.
  • Provides lectures, workshops, clinics, newsletter content, and social media content.
  • Participates in 100% of emergency response training and demonstrates competency to respond to emergency situations.
  • Coordinates special projects as assigned, such as developing action plans, scheduling update meetings, coordinating projects with minimal supervision, and completing projects within agreed timelines.
  • Participates in fitness staff meetings and represents BCHD/CHF at community events.
  • Plays a leadership role with sustained, regular participation in CHF outreach programs.
  • Performs assigned training, duties, and work schedule as a disaster service worker on behalf of BCHD.
  • Exhibits clear understanding of the history, mission, and vision and serves as an ambassador of Beach Cities Health District.
  • Exemplifies BCHD’s core values of compassion, integrity, accountability, and excellence in every interaction with staff, volunteers, members, and the public.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
