About The Position

Provide personal care to Elders and help them with all individual daily care to keep them independent as long as possible; and maintain quality of life for Elders by providing a clean, healthy, safe environment.

  • Personal Support Worker Certificate
  • No experience required

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care in a dignified manner to Elders, including bathing, toileting, incontinence management, mouth care, dressing, shaving, hair and nail care, social interaction, and feeding.
  • Communicate and attempt to obtain cooperation from Elders, co-workers, family members, and supervisors.
  • Maintain the tidiness of Elder rooms by straightening closets and bedside tables, cleaning wheelchairs, catheter bags, commodes, urinals, bedpans, and washbasins.
  • Distribute clean linens and towels, and change soiled bed liners.
  • Follow manufacturer's guidelines for tub cleaning and disinfection.
  • Feed and/or assist with feeding Elders as per the care plan.
  • Open cartons, cut food, and place items within reach for Elders.
  • Distribute food and fluids to Elders via a snack cart and provide fluids throughout each shift.
  • Porter Elders to dining rooms, bedrooms, and activities.
  • Empty garbage and linen bags from care carts to housekeeping carts.
  • Transfer Elders from bed to wheelchair and other locations.
  • Use mechanical lifts to transfer residents from bed, chair, or toilet.
  • Reposition residents in bed using transfer sheets.
  • Apply and remove lift slings when using mechanical lifts.
  • Document on the PSW Personal Care Record each shift to reflect ADLs, behaviors, contingency, and mouth care.
  • Complete daily documentation on dietary flow sheets to reflect fluid and nutritional intake.
  • Log repair or maintenance issues in the maintenance binder.
  • Report changes, concerns, or Elder situations to the Team Leader during the shift.
  • Complete audits as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Complete mechanical lift safe start-up sheets prior to equipment use.
  • Keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc., ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed.
  • Possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis.
