Personal Lines Auto Insurance Underwriter
About The Position
First Chicago Insurance Company is hiring for its underwriting team, with opportunities for Personal Auto Underwriters and Underwriting Assistants. The role works within the underwriting department in a fast-paced environment, reviewing applications and assessing risk profiles, collaborating with underwriting team members, and providing customer service to policyholders. The position also involves maintaining accurate documentation, complying with regulatory standards, and contributing ideas to improve operations. Underwriters may help train new underwriting staff in company systems and daily underwriting processes.
Requirements
- Personal Auto Underwriter candidates must have prior auto underwriting experience.
- Underwriting Assistant candidates must have prior customer service experience.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to pass written examinations when required by state statutes to become a licensed Property and Casualty Agent.
- Good typing and data-entry skills, with a minimum typing speed of 30 words per minute.
Nice To Haves
- College degree or related industry experience.
- Property and Casualty Agency license.
- Ability to use an online underwriting system.
Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to agents and policyholders regarding quotes, endorsements, and renewals while providing a high level of customer service.
- Develop an understanding of coverage, exposures, rating plans, and state requirements.
- Enter new business policies, endorsements, and renewals.
- Order reports and assemble information needed to support underwriting.
- Assist the Underwriting Unit with new business, endorsement, and renewal processes as needed.
- Work on special projects as directed.
- Prepare system output for mailing.
- Complete Financial Responsibility Filings.
- Underwriters train new underwriting staff in system use and daily underwriting processes.
