About The Position

Personal Financial Counselors (PFC) provide personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families. Services include financial education and counseling that may encompass one-on-one counseling, consultation with a commander or other staff, conducting briefings and educational presentations, or providing referral resources to a participant outside the context of a counseling session. PFCs work closely with the installation and military branch points of contact to assure the program is provided within scope and meets the needs of the installation.

Requirements

Must have one of the following active certifications: AFC R; ChFC R; or CFP R.
Must be a U.S. citizen, speak fluent English, and possess a valid driver's license.
Bachelor’s degree OR a combination of education and experience.
Be able to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
Must have over 1,000 hours of financial counseling experience.

Responsibilities

Provide personal financial counseling and management services directly to service members and their families.
Assist service members in establishing an extended absence financial plan.
Develop and make available informational financial materials to service members and families.
Coordinate, publicize, and provide Financial Management classes/workshops on topics across the military lifecycle, including arrival at first duty station, pre- and post-deployment, and personal and career events outlined in DoDI 1322.34.
Respond to requests for age‐appropriate classes or seminars.
Ability to utilize virtual counseling or other modes of communication, such as secure online chat, or video-based communications and secure video teleconference sponsored by the customer. Virtual support may only be authorized by the OSD FINRED Program office.
Manage duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to Department of Defense (DoD) protocol and staffs the cases with leadership.
Communicate with leadership and participate in individual and group supervision, sharing information regarding trends and issues on the installations to which the counselor is assigned.
Participate in in-services/ training, quality Improvement committees , or other contract activities.
All other duties as assigned.
