About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to perform and oversee resident personal care or to assist residents in performing personal care, including dining services, in accordance with Facility policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Read, write, and speak basic English sentences
  • Read and comprehend basic instructions and present information to others
  • Read, interpret, and write routine reports and correspondence
  • Basic counting skills
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide simple numbers
  • Operate fax machine to send or receive documents
  • Operate company cell phone and paging system
  • Operate multi-line phone to place, receive or transfer calls, or to retrieve voice mail messages.
  • Operate copier to copy and collate documents; paper shredder to shred
  • Operate lifts used in facility
  • Operate the medical equipment used in the department (eg. manual blood pressure cuff)
  • Effectively work and communicate with a wide range of individuals from all socio-economic groups, including geriatric residents, people with special needs, and those in need of memory care support
  • Read, interpret, and implement documents, such as governmental regulations, rules, and procedure manuals
  • Work with minimal supervision and effectively manage workflow
  • Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
  • Respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints from residents, resident families, coworkers, volunteers, and the public.
  • The employee must be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work under time and/or deadline pressures.
  • Frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, bend, squat, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear.
  • Frequently lift up to 10 pounds, but rarely lift up to 20 pounds, and rarely lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Occasionally reach above shoulder height, frequently reach from chest to shoulder, and frequently reach below waist level.
  • Occasionally carry up to 12 pounds but rarely carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequently push / pull up to 20 pounds, but rarely push up to 40 pounds and rarely push / pull up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately and safely perform resident care, in accordance with residents’ service plan, resident Assignment Sheets and worksheets, and nurses’ instructions.
  • Follow resident Service Plans and give input for changes in writing.
  • Answer residents’ pendant alarms and emergency call buttons in a timely manner, then follow the incident reporting procedure.
  • Straighten and maintain Assisted Living area and equipment storage areas in neat and orderly condition.
  • Assist residents to and from meals, meetings, and activities, as needed.
  • Give incoming staff a report at the end of assigned shift.
  • Check in with the Front Desk Clerk and use the communication books to update on status of residents.
  • Accurately record resident care on Resident Assignment Sheet.
  • File documentation in resident charts as needed.
  • Inform nurses, in writing, of improvement or decline in resident condition on a timely basis.
  • Charge out billable supplies.
  • Answer Assisted Living telephone when nurse is unavailable.
  • Practice appropriate phone and pager etiquette.
  • Communicate with supervisor and participate in training and/or meetings that help facilitate departmental communication process.
  • Attend and participate in in-service educational classes, on-the-job training programs, etc., as scheduled or required.
  • Attend staff and departmental meetings, as directed.
  • Communicate with others in a considerate manner.
  • Function effectively as a team member.
  • Maintain understanding, patience, and tact in dealing with residents, resident families, and coworkers, and be cooperative.
  • Maintain good working relationships with other staff.
  • Respect residents’ personal items.
  • Ensure maintenance of a safe living and working environment for residents and staff.
  • Work independently and maintain good problem-solving skills.
  • Maintain regular work attendance and follow established work schedule.
  • At times, hours and days of the week must be flexible to meet scheduling requirements.
