The Personal Care Assistant assists older people who are functionally, physically, and or socially impaired and need 24-hour oversight. The Personal Care Assistant’s role is to assist residents with those activities of daily living that they are unable to perform without help, fostering at all times residents’ independence and freedom of choice. All responsibilities will be conducted in a manner that is consistent with the philosophy or assisted living.

Requirements

  • Ability to think, act, and intervene independently in both routine and emergency situations.
  • Self-motivated and able to function as an “in charge person.”
  • Ability to relate to residents and staff in a courteous and diplomatic manner under all circumstances.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and participate in holiday activities.
  • CPR certification.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Attend all mandatory education programs and describe responsibilities related to general safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain a professional, neat, clean, and appropriate appearance for the work environment.
  • Wear proper photo identification badge while on duty.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and participate in monthly rounding process with manager.
  • Participate in and complete required department specific education and training programs.
  • Follow safety and security policies including exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Support the mission, vision and CARES values of Fisher Titus.
  • Be knowledgeable of patient rights and ensure an atmosphere which allows for the privacy, dignity and well-being of all patients in a safe, secure environment.
  • Support, cooperate with, and implement specific procedures and programs for safety, including universal precautions, fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security.
  • Report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs.
  • Support, cooperate with, and implement specific procedures and programs for confidentiality of all data.
  • Support, cooperate with, and implement specific procedures and programs for Quality Assurance and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Support, cooperate with, and implement specific procedures and programs for compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from sexual harassment and all illegal and discriminatory behavior.
  • Communicate with compassion by engaging in active listening, utilizing the AIDET communication tool, using key words at key times, and utilizing HEART service recovery techniques.
  • Demonstrate service etiquette by smiling and greeting patients using the 10/5 rule, demonstrating a calm, positive attitude, ensuring patient privacy, promoting a healing environment, adjusting approach to respect diversity, and assessing and managing patient's expectations of care.
  • Commit to safety by following established safety guidelines to reduce risk of adverse events and committing to the Culture of Safety.
  • Deliver high quality care by committing to efficient, effective and purposeful work and engaging in practices that will continually improve processes.

Nice To Haves

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant in Ohio preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist older people who are functionally, physically, and/or socially impaired and need 24-hour oversight.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADL’s).
  • Provide assistance with instrumental activities of daily living.
  • Provide medication assistance.
  • Perform health maintenance and monitoring tasks.
  • Assist with dining.
  • Assist with activity programs.
  • Handle emergency preparedness.
  • Demonstrate an appreciation of the heritage, values, and wisdom of the residents and an understanding of the aging process.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings.
  • Participate in in-service, projects or committees as assigned.
  • Assist with quality assurance programs when indicated.
  • Assist in training of new staff.
  • Assume all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
