The Personal Care Assistant assists older people who are functionally, physically, and or socially impaired and need 24-hour oversight. The Personal Care Assistant’s role is to assist residents with those activities of daily living that they are unable to perform without help, fostering at all times residents’ independence and freedom of choice. All responsibilities will be conducted in a manner that is consistent with the philosophy or assisted living.

Requirements

  • Must be able to think, act, and intervene independently in both routine and emergency situations
  • Must be self-motivated and function as an “in charge person.”
  • Must be able to relate to residents and staff in a courteous and diplomatic manner under all circumstances
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and participate in holiday activities
  • CPR certification
  • First Aid certification
  • Appearance is professional, neat, clean, and appropriate for the work environment
  • Wears proper photo identification badge while on duty

Nice To Haves

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant in Ohio preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists older people who are functionally, physically, and or socially impaired and need 24-hour oversight
  • Assist residents with those activities of daily living that they are unable to perform without help, fostering at all times residents’ independence and freedom of choice
  • Provides assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s)
  • Provides assistance with Instrumental Activities of Daily Living
  • Provides Medication Assistance
  • Performs Health Maintenance and Monitoring Tasks
  • Assists with Dining
  • Participates in Activity Program
  • Participates in Emergency Preparedness
  • Demonstrates Leadership
  • Performs Administrative Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates an appreciation of the heritage, values, and wisdom of the residents and an understanding of the aging process
  • Attends and participated in staff meetings
  • Participates in in-service, projects or committees as assigned
  • Assists with quality assurance programs when indicated
  • Assists in training of new staff
  • Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary
  • Attends all mandatory education programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety and regulatory compliance
  • Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times, as observed by peers and management
  • Attends monthly staff meetings and participates in monthly rounding process with manager to assure effective and timely two-way communications
  • Participates in and completes required department specific education and training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to department safety and specific job-related hazards
  • Follows safety and security policies including exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens
  • Supports the mission, vision and CARES values of Fisher Titus
  • Is knowledgeable of patient rights and ensures an atmosphere which allows for the privacy, dignity and well-being of all patients in a safe, secure environment
  • Supports, cooperates with, and implements specific procedures and programs for: Safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs
  • Confidentiality of all data, including patient, employee and operations data
  • Quality Assurance and compliance with all regulatory requirements
